Pre & Post Instructions

Following your pre- and post-care instructions is essential for achieving the best possible outcome. Your pre-care steps lay the groundwork for a successful treatment, while your post-care routine helps protect, maintain, and enhance your results. This document covers every service offered at Bare Laser MedSpa.

TOX

Before Treatment

  • Discontinue Aspirin, NSAIDs, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids for 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment.
  • You may take Tylenol (if not contraindicated) one hour before your appointment if you have concerns about discomfort.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, and cigarettes 24–48 hours before and after treatment.
  • Let Bare know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
  • Avoid vaccines (flu, COVID, etc.) for 2 weeks before or after your appointment.
  • Tox is NOT appropriate if you have: myasthenia gravis, allergy to botulinum toxin, neuromuscular disorder, pregnancy/breastfeeding, or allergy to human albumin.

Post Treatment

  • Do NOT have a facial, rub, or massage the treated area for the first 24 hours.
  • Do NOT lie down or do strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid sauna, hot tub, or tanning for at least 4 days. Use SPF 30–50.
  • Avoid exercise for the first 24 hours to prevent blood pressure rise and minimize bruising.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Some patients experience mild headache — Tylenol is okay; avoid aspirin, Excedrin, ibuprofen, Aleve, or Advil for 3–4 days.
  • Tiny bumps or marks at injection sites resolve within a few hours. Mild bruising is possible and may last up to 1 week.
  • Tox begins to work in 3–7 days; full results are seen at 2 weeks. If desired result is not achieved by 2 weeks, additional injections may be needed at standard pricing (per Bare’s touch-up policy).

FILLERS

Before Treatment

  • It is recommended to discontinue Aspirin, NSAIDs, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids for at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising or bleeding. Consult your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, and cigarettes 24–48 hours before and after your treatment.
  • Let Bare know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
  • Avoid dental procedures (including dental cleanings) for 2 weeks before or after your appointment.
  • Avoid vaccines (flu, COVID, etc.) for 2 weeks before or after your appointment.

Post Treatment

  • Use Tylenol for any soreness.
  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by your provider.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat exposure for 72 hours.
  • If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour, if instructed. Any tiny bumps or needle marks will resolve within 2–4 weeks.
  • Sleep face up and slightly elevated.
  • Postpone any dental procedures and vaccines for at least 2 weeks after treatment.
  • Wait at least 2 weeks before having any other facial treatments (facials, massages, lasers, ultrasounds, microdermabrasion).
  • Full results of dermal fillers take 2–3 weeks to settle.
  • IMPORTANT: If you notice the injected area turning dark blue/black (not like a normal bruise) or have intense pain, call and/or the office immediately at 845.504.5661. This is a medical emergency.

BIOSTIMULATORS

Before Treatment

  • Discontinue Aspirin, NSAIDs, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or essential fatty acids for 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment.

Post Treatment

  • Redness or sensitivity may be present and last up to 14 days.
  • Use Tylenol for any soreness.
  • Massage the treated area(s) 5 times a day for about 5 minutes, for 5 days after treatment (the “5-5-5 rule”).
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun, heat, and extreme cold for 72 hours.
  • Apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour, if instructed, for swelling.
  • Sleep face up and slightly elevated.

LIPLASE™

Before Treatment

  1. Drink 100 oz of water with 2 packets of electrolytes per day for at least 3 days (or more) before treatment and on the day of the treatment. This wavelength is attracted to water, so the more hydrated, the better the results.
  2. Make sure your lips are clean and free of any makeup (no lip color) or other product.
  3. Avoid eating or drinking anything for at least 30 minutes before your appointment.
  4. No fillers for at least 1 month before treatment.
  5. Avoid drinking too much coffee 3 days before treatment and on the day of.

Post Treatment

  • Avoid drinking alcohol or eating spicy foods for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight or UV rays for at least 48 hours to prevent blisters.
  • Apply lip balm frequently to keep your lips moisturized.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Before Treatment

  • Hair must be cleanly shaven within 24 hours of your appointment. We do NOT shave on site — if the treatment area is not shaved, we will have to reschedule.
  • Do not wear makeup, lotion, or deodorant on the treated area the day of treatment.
  • No sun tanning or self-tanners for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
  • You may not be on antibiotics or steroids within 4 weeks of your appointment.
  • You may not receive laser if you have been on Accutane (isotretinoin) or immunosuppressants within the past 6 months.
  • No waxing, plucking, or tweezing for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Avoid skin irritants for 2 weeks prior (tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents).
  • Notify Bare of any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.

Post Treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen on the treated area.
  • Redness and perifollicular edema (looks like a rash or bug bites) are common and resolve with time.
  • Bruising and swelling are less common but may occur and resolve with time.
  • Hair may take up to 2 weeks to fall out.
  • Avoid heat — hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, very hot showers — for 1–2 days.
  • Avoid skin irritants for a few days (tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents).
  • Do not wax or pluck between treatments — shaving only.
  • Notify Bare of any concerns (blistering, excessive redness or swelling) right away.
  • Hair removal requires a series of treatments. The number depends on body location and hair type.

Before Treatment

  • Drink at least 64 oz of water on the day of the treatment.
  • Avoid using any retinoids or other exfoliating products for at least two weeks before your appointment.
  • Remove all makeup before your appointment.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on the day of your appointment.

Post Treatment

  • Avoid exposing the treated area to sunlight for at least 24 hours. If you must go outside, wear sunscreen with SPF 30+ and a hat.
  • Do not take hot showers or baths for the first 24 hours after treatment — opt for lukewarm water and avoid harsh soaps or scrubs on the treated area.
  • Apply a moisturizer regularly to keep the skin hydrated and prevent dryness.
  • Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for at least 24 hours after treatment.
  • If you experience puffiness or redness, try applying a cold compress for 20 minutes at a time.

SMOOTHEYE®

Before Treatment

  • Drink at least 64 oz of water on the day of the treatment.
  • Avoid using any retinoids or other exfoliating products around the eye area for at least two weeks before your appointment.
  • Remove all makeup and contact lenses before your appointment.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on the day of your appointment.

Post Treatment

  • Keep the area clean: gently cleanse the treated area as directed; avoid harsh cleansers or rubbing.
  • Apply cold compresses (wrapped in a cloth or with frozen peas) for short intervals to reduce swelling and bruising, if recommended.
  • Limit physical activity, especially anything that could strain the eye area, for a few days.
  • Wear sunglasses and sunscreen with high SPF to protect the treated area from UV rays.
  • Keep the treated area hydrated with gentle, hydrating skincare products.
  • Refrain from using harsh exfoliants or active ingredients like retinol for 7 days.
  • Drink plenty of water to aid in healing.

HAND REJUVENATION

Before Treatment

  • Wash your hands with a gentle cleanser.
  • Avoid the sun for at least two weeks before your treatment.
  • Avoid using any retinoids or other exfoliating products for at least two weeks before your appointment.

Post Treatment

  • Avoid the sun for at least two weeks following your treatment.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
  • Avoid using any harsh products that could irritate your skin.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet to keep skin hydrated and promote healing.

MICRONEEDLING & LASERNEEDLING

Notify your provider before treatment if any of the following apply:

  • You are pregnant, nursing, or attempting to become pregnant.
  • You have an allergy or sensitivity to metals (gold, chromium, nickel).
  • You have a history of an autoimmune disorder.
  • You have permanent makeup, tattoos, or microblading in the treatment area.
  • You are currently or recently on Accutane, anticoagulants, gold therapy, or photosensitizing medications.
  • You have a history of skin disorders, keloids, abnormal wound healing, or very dry/fragile skin.
  • You are taking or recently took antibiotics.
  • You have allergies or sensitivities to topical numbing medications.
  • You have an active cold sore. If prone to cold sores, contact us at 845.504.5661 for antiviral prophylaxis.
  • You have a cardiac device (AICD, defibrillator, mechanical valves, pacemaker, or neurological stimulating device).
  • You have metal implants in the treatment area, including a Paragard / copper IUD.
  • You have had filler within 30 days or neurotoxin within 14 days.
  • You have had vaccines (flu, COVID, etc.) within the past 2 weeks, or have one scheduled in the next 2 weeks.

Before Laserneedling

  • Avoid known skin irritants such as retinoids and alpha/beta hydroxy acids for 3–5 days prior, unless otherwise directed.
  • Avoid waxing or depilatories for 1–2 weeks prior.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, self-tanners, and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior. Use sun protection.
  • Avoid NSAIDs (aspirin, Motrin, Advil, ibuprofen) for 2 weeks prior — unless prescribed.

Post Laserneedling

  • Redness or sensitivity may be present and last up to a few days.
  • Use Tylenol only as needed for soreness.
  • Peeling and dryness may start 3–5 days after treatment.
  • Do not pick or scratch at treated skin.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24–48 hours.
  • Avoid sun tanning and prolonged direct sun exposure for 2–4 weeks.
  • If exposed to the sun, always use SPF 30+ and reapply every 2 hours.
  • Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers for 2 weeks. Resume regular skincare and exfoliants in 10–14 days or once skin is no longer sensitive.

MICRONEEDLING

Contraindications:

  • Active skin cancer in the treatment area.
  • Open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area.
  • Allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics.
  • Hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic dysfunction.
  • Pregnant or nursing.
  • Currently taking drugs containing isotretinoin (Accutane).

Before Microneedling

  • Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.
  • Excess hair may need to be shaved. Men should be cleanly shaved.
  • No sun tanning or self-tanners for 4 weeks prior.
  • Stop using tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, vitamin C, or astringents 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Notify Bare of any changes to your health history or medications.
  • History of herpes or cold sores may require an antiviral prescription prior.

Post Microneedling

  • Wait at least 24–48 hours before washing your face or applying soap, cream, or makeup.
  • For face treatments, do not wear a face mask for 3–5 days as your face heals.
  • Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen after 24 hours.
  • Avoid heat — hot tubs, saunas — for 1–2 days.
  • Resume tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, vitamin C, astringents only after 24 hours post-treatment, or as directed.
  • Bruising, redness, and swelling may occur and resolve with time.
  • Notify Bare of any concerns (excessive redness or swelling, grid pattern).
  • Wait 6 months following oral isotretinoin (Accutane) use before treatment.

L-SCULPT

Contraindications:

Treatments must be performed on a healthy skin free of pathogens or infections. All medical conditions must be referred to a physician. The focalized electromagnetic induction treatments must not be performed on patients with the following conditions:

HYDRAFACIAL

Contraindications:

HydraFacial is not suitable for skin with active acne

Before HydraFacial

  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliants (AHAs/BHAs), and active ingredients 3–5 days before
  • No waxing, laser, or electrolysis on the treatment area within 1 week
  • Arrive with a clean face — no heavy makeup
  • Stay well hydrated in the days leading up
  • Inform your provider of any active breakouts, rosacea flares, or recent sunburn
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning 48 hours prior

After HydraFacial

  • Avoid touching or picking at skin for at least 24 hours
  • Skip makeup for the rest of the day if possible (at least 6 hours)
  • No retinoids, exfoliants, or active serums for 48 hours after
  • Avoid heat — saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, and strenuous workouts for 24 hours
  • Stay out of direct sun and apply SPF 30+ daily
  • Keep skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer
  • Avoid waxing or any other facial treatments for at least 1 week
  • Results are best maintained with treatments every 4–6 weeks

Photofacial

Contraindications: Photofacials can only be done on light skin patients (1-3 on the Fitzpatrick Scale, see below) !!!

Before Treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure 4–6 weeks before and after treatment. Apply strong sunscreen (SPF 30+) if sun exposure is unavoidable.
  • Do not tan. If skin is tanned 2 weeks before treatment, you may develop hyperpigmentation that could take months to clear.
  • Discontinue all self-tanning products 2 weeks before treatment. Any residual self-tanner should be removed prior to treatment.
  • Avoid bleaching, plucking, or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment.
  • You may be asked to stop topical medications or skincare products 3–5 days before treatment.
  • If you have a history of perioral or genital herpes simplex virus, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be recommended.

Post Treatment

  • Immediately after treatment, there may be a coffee grind like “scab” on the skin The treated area might feel like a sunburn for a few hours. Redness may last 2–3 days.
  • Aloe vera gel or another topical soothing product may be applied if desired.
  • Makeup may be used immediately after treatment as long as the skin is not irritated.
  • Avoid sun exposure and use SPF 30+ throughout the course of treatment.
  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
  • Treat skin gently for the first 24 hours, like a sunburn.
    Do not work out, use a hot tub, or sauna for the first 24 hours.
  • Discontinue use for 7 days after treatment:Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tretinoin, Tazorac, Glycolic acids, Vitamin C products, Other potential skin irritants.

L-SCULPT
